LISTEN: Time change a reminder to focus on fire safety

When you set your clocks ahead Saturday night, Stafford Fire and Rescue spokesperson Katie Brady says it’s also a good time to check your smoke detectors. Make sure you have a working detector on every level of your home and near bedrooms, and replace the batteries if your unit uses them.

If you have a 10-year sealed detector, test it to be sure it’s working. Brady says fires can spread more quickly in newer homes because of modern materials, making early warning from a working smoke detector even more important.
