(Richmond)- A new law will make penalties tougher for anyone guilty of capital murder for killing a law enforcement officer. Yesterday, Governor Northam signed a bill that changes the minimum sentence for capital murder on a cop to the minimum sentence of life in prison. This bill was drafted in response to the Travis Ball case. Ball was a 28-year-old man sentenced to life in prison for killing Special Agent Michael Walter in 2017, but a judge ruled that Ball only had to serve 36-years of that life sentence.
