VEC: Thousands Mistakenly Told They Owed Overpayments

(Richmond)- Turns out thousands of Virginians who were told they were overpaid unemployment benefits actually weren’t.  Officials with the Virginia Employment Commission say more than 68-hundred applicants received the overpayment notices when they changed over to a new IT system.  Commissioner Carrie Roth says they are currently notifying those who got the erroneous notices to let them know they won’t be required to return the money they never received in the first place.
