Woman Who Disciplined Twins With Belt Has Conviction Overturned

(Hanover)- A woman who was sentenced to jail for disciplining her 12-year-old twins with a belt has her conviction overturned. Tina Woodson was found guilty of assault and battery in Hanover County, after her children told school officials they were scared to go home, and showed them bruises left by the belt.  However, the Virginia Court of Appeals ruled that the Commonwealth allows for the corporal punishment of children, and there was no evidence Woodson’s actions exceeded the bounds of parental privilege.
