New Bicycle Laws Begin July 1st

(Richmond)- The way Virginians travel by bicycle, or around them, will change beginning July 1st.  The Virginia General Assembly has passed two new laws in an effort to improve bicycle safety in the state.  This comes after the Virginia DMV reported 560 bicycle crashes last year, including eight fatalities.  One of the laws will allow bicyclists to ride two abreast in a travel lane.  The other requires drivers to change lanes when passing bicyclists.
