(Richmond)- The first case of the South Africa COVID-19 variant has been detected in Northwest Virginia. Officials with the Virginia Department of Health say that the patient had no recent travel history, but they fear that this variant has an increased risk of transmission. As of yesterday, the state has identified 20 cases of the United Kingdom variant and four cases of the South Africa variant.
