Virginia May Become Second State To Pass Data Privacy Law

(Richmond)- Virginians may soon have more power over how their personal data is handled. The General Assembly passed a bill giving consumers the right to see how their personal information is processed, to get a copy of it, ask for deletion of it and opt out altogether. Virginia would become only the second state to pass a data privacy law, after California. It’s called the Consumer Data Protection Act and would go into effect in 2023 if signed by Governor Northam.
