New Legislation May Move Local Elections To November

(Richmond)- Local elections in Virginia may be moved from May to November. The Virginia House and Senate have now both passed legislation to do so. But critics say keeping elections for mayor and city council prevent them from getting overshadowed by national elections. Supporters say the change would limit confusion, increase voter turnout and save money. If the measure is approved by Governor Northam, it would take effect in 2022. This would impact Fredericksburg.
