Mayor Suggests Money For Shockoe Bottom Slave Trade Projects

(Richmond)- Richmond’s mayor is pushing an initiative to commemorate the slave trade story in Shockoe Bottom.  Levar Stoney said yesterday he is proposing to spend between 25-to-50-million dollars over five-years to invest in the project.  Some of that money is for a memorial park and slave history museum.  Shockoe Bottom is a former site where slaves were brought from Africa and housed in a jail until sold.
