(Richmond)- Virginia is eliminating a backlog of thousands of untested rape kits. Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring made the announcement yesterday and said that these kits are used to collect physical evidence like DNA from rape victims. At one point there was more than 26-hundred test kits in this backlog with some sitting around for decades. The Attorney General said this means that Virginia is a safer place because justice is closer for victims and a wrong has been righted. Virginia becomes only the seventh state to do this.
