UVA Considers New Names for Two Legendary Campus Buildings

(Charlottesville)- New names are being considered for the Curry School and Ruffner Hall at the University of Virginia. The changes are in an effort to better understand the efforts of J.L.M. Curry and William Ruffner and their ties to racial segregation and slavery. The new name of the Curry School would be the University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development, which would only drop Curry’s name. Ruffner Hall would be changed to honor the first African American to earn a doctoral degree from the school, Walter Nathaniel Ridley. Both Curry and Ruffner would be recognized with plaques at UVA
