Jefferson’s Birthday To Celebrate Liberation

tj1

(Charlottesville)- For the first time since World War Two, the city of Charlottesville will not honor the birth of Thomas Jefferson. Going forward, the holiday will be known as Liberation and Freedom Day.  The date will be used to celebrate the day Union troops arrived in the city and freed the slaves in 1865.  This comes as the state attempts to make amends due to lingering results of the Confederacy.
