Catholic Diocese Sets Up Program to Help Victims Abused by Clergy

(Richmond)- The Catholic Diocese of Richmond set up a program to help people who have been abused by members of the clergy.  The Independent Reconciliation Program allows people to file a claim if they abused.  The claims are reviewed and a monetary settlement amount is determined as part of the process to help survivors of abuse heal.  Those who qualify were victims of sexual abuse as a minor by clergy and may not have previously filed a suit with the Richmond Diocese.  One Bishop noted that the program will never be able to fully compensate for the harm done but believes its one of the best ways to reach reconciliation with those affected.
