Hampton Roads Girls Propose Law for “Seizure-Safe” Schools

(Norfolk)-  Two girls from Hampton Roads are proposing a law that would make schools “seizure safe.” Sixteen-year-old Jamie Cleave and 12-year-old Brie Gesick both suffer from epilepsy seizures.  They wrote the Jamie and Brie Strong Act for Seizure Safe Schools – It’s Senate Bill 420. The bill would ensure that teachers would recognize the signs of a seizure and know how to respond. The bill would also enable all school employees to be properly trained in the case of a seizure occurring. The girls say, although the bill is in its beginning phases, it could save lives.
