(Richmond)- Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring says he’s proposing a package of bills to tackle hate crimes in the Commonwealth. One proposal would expand the state’s definition of a hate crime and another would put restrictions on militia groups. Another proposal would block anyone convicted of a hate crime from owning a firearm. State police records show hate crimes in Virginia have jumped more than 30-percent in the last six years.
