Governor Northam Supports Replacing Lee-Jackson Day With Election Day As State Holiday

(Richmond)- On the eve of the opening of this year’s General Assembly, Governor Northam says he’ll support replacing Lee-Jackson Day with Election Day as a state holiday. Lee-Jackson Day celebrates Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson every year on the Friday before Martin Luther King Day in January. Northam says making Election Day a state holiday would help improve voting access for Virginians.
