Whooping Cough Outbreak In Central Virginia

(Charlottesville)- Shenandoah Valley health officials are reporting a highly contagious respiratory infection is on the rise in Central Virginia.  There have been more than one hundred reported cases of Pertussis Whooping Cough which is a major increase from previous years.  The Staunton and Waynesboro areas have the most cases. It’s caused by bacteria, but doctors recommend staying up to date on immunizations as pertussis is preventable by vaccination.  Washing your hands is also suggested.
