Virginia Residents To Pay State Tax When Shopping Online

(Richmond)-  A new law in Virginia requires online shoppers to pay state taxes for the first time.  The Supreme Court passed the law back in June 2018 and the Virginia’s General Assembly is adopting the bill.  This could generate a revenue stream for the state of more than one-hundred-million dollars.  One-percent of the sales tax will go back into local government to help fund schools and law enforcement.  More than 12-hundred businesses across the state have already signed on.  Amazon was already collecting and remitting state sales tax.
