Group Tries To End Lunch Shaming In Prince William County

(Woodbridge)-  Reports show that at least four out of ten students in Northern Virginia public schools qualify for free or reduced lunch.  When their benefits lapse the district picks up the bill. “Settle the Debt” is a grassroots effort to pay off student lunch debt across the county.  They are about 25-thousand dollars away from the needed amount to pay off the lunch debt in 20 schools.  The program also suggests better legislation. Some schools are slated to have their student lunch debt paid off by December 18th.  The current student lunch debt in Prince William County is 221-thousand dollars.
