UVA Doctors Help In Africa

(Charlottesville)- A group of doctors from the University of Virginia are in Africa to help improve the heart health of patients.  The team has been in Zambia for two weeks performing heart screenings and working with the University of Zambia’s medical team.  In Zambia, doctors aren’t fully equipped to treat rheumatic heart disease, despite there being so many cases.  The medical team screened 30 patients and six were found to have heart disease.  The UVA medical team is already planning to take a trip back to Zambia in the summer with a surgical group to treat more patients.
