(Williamsburg)- William & Mary is continuing its research of slavery thanks to a large grant. The school will receive a five-year, one-million-dollar grant from the Mellon Foundation to support inclusive research and community engagement around the legacies of slavery and racism. Researchers plan to identify those who helped build the campus and keep the stories of their descendants alive in an oral history initiative. An assistant history professor says it will help fill in some pieces of the story that haven’t been uncovered.
