Petition Started To Remove Charlottesville Statue

(Charlottesville)- A Charlottesville man is fighting to bring down the statue of a Revolutionary War general on the campus of UVA.  The school’s segregation commission is now reviewing a petition started by David Swanson which targets a memorial to George Rogers Clark at the intersection of West Main Street and Jefferson Park Avenue.  Supporters of the petition argue that it should be taken down because Clark helped kill Native Americans during westward expansion.  Swanson told the Daily Progress that there should be no legal issues with removing it since it’s not technically a war memorial.
