Fields Asks For Mercy In Sentencing For Rally Attack

(Charlottesville)- The Ohio man convicted in a deadly car attack at the Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville is asking for mercy. James Fields is scheduled to be sentenced Friday for nearly 30 federal hate crimes. His lawyers filed a memo in court last week asking the judge for leniency in sentencing because Fields had a traumatic childhood and a history of mental illness. Prosecutors argue that he’s shown no remorse. Heather Heyer died and others were injured when Fields drove his car into a group of counterprotesters at the rally.
