(Charlottesville)- Some changes are being made surrounding the observance of Thomas Jefferson’s birthday on April 13th in Albemarle County. The Board of Supervisors voted to change the normal paid holiday for Albemarle County employees to a floating holiday that can be used in the first half of the year. County staff told the Daily Progress that the change was made in reaction to problems with people trying to access county services on the date of the paid holiday so near tax day. The city of Charlottesville is considering a proposal next month to replace the paid holiday for Jefferson’s birthday with Liberation and Freedom Day.
