(Charlottesville)- Charlottesville’s mayor is proposing to get rid of a paid city holiday to celebrate Thomas Jefferson’s birthday. The mayor instead wants to observe Liberation and Freedom day as the paid holiday. Councilor Wes Bellamy told the Daily Progress that they need to have the conversation because Jefferson was a slave owner.
