Judge Strikes Down Virginia Doctor-Only Abortion Law

(Undated)- A federal judge is tossing out part of a Virginia law that says only doctors can perform abortions.  The judge says nurses, physician assistants, and other health care providers can perform abortions during the first three months of pregnancy.  The ruling was made on Tuesday in the Richmond District Court.  The judge kept the 1975 law in place for abortions from the second trimester on.  The judge ruled that requiring a doctor to perform first trimester abortions is “unduly burdensome.”
