Senators Call For Beach Umbrella Safety

(DC)- Virginia Senator Mark Warner is helping lead an effort aimed at keeping people safe from beach umbrellas.  A woman was killed in Virginia Beach last year when an umbrella got caught in a gust of wind and impaled her in the chest.  Warner and New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez sent a letter to the Consumer Product Safety Commission highlighting their concerns yesterday.  They’re calling for detailed information as to what safety standards are in place, what problems exist with specific products and what’s being done to prevent future incidents.
