(Richmond)- Virginia safety advocates are hoping to convince Governor Northam to amend a hands-free driving bill. The proposal to remove devices from the hands of drivers failed in the General Assembly, but lawmakers did pass a bill prohibiting those actions near construction zones only. The group Drive Smart sent a letter to Northam this week, urging him to amend the bill to include a total ban on hand-held phones before he signs it. Legislators will need to vote on the matter again if the governor makes the change.
