(Richmond)- The state superintendent is urging Virginia’s school systems to eliminate racism. James Lane sent a letter in response to what he calls the unacceptable and hurtful events from the past few weeks. The letter encouraged educators to teach lessons with racial sensitivity in a renewed commitment to equity in public schools. Lane was appointed as the superintendent of public instruction last year by Governor Northam, who admitted this month that he once wore blackface.
