General Assembly Considering Earlier Start To School

(Richmond)- State lawmakers are closer to allowing Virginia schools to start before Labor Day. The House and Senate have both passed slightly different bills and will need to hash them out before the idea moves forward. Fairfax County’s school board chair says an earlier start gives students time to prepare for national tests. Opponents are concerned that starting before Labor Day will cut into the tourist season. Virginia school districts are currently allowed to start earlier if the state grants them a waiver.
