Bill Raising Age To Purchase Tobacco Passes

(Richmond)-  A bill raising the legal age of smoking in the Commonwealth now only needs the governor’s signature to become law.  The House of Delegates followed the Senate’s lead by passing a proposal yesterday that will require someone to be 21 years old to purchase tobacco products in Virginia.  Lawmakers proposed the idea in large part because of a troubling amount of vaping among teenagers.  House Speaker Kirk Cox said it should have a positive effect on schools.
