Virginia To Spend $1 Million This Year Preserving Battlefields

(Richmond)- Virginia will spend just over a million dollars this year to preserve more battlefields from both the Civil and Revolutionary Wars. Officials with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources said a portion of the money will go to preserving several dozen acres in York County associated with the 1781 Siege of Yorktown. That will be the first Revolutionary War battle site to receive state preservation money since the fund was created in 2010. The new land covered by this year’s funds adds up to about 600 acres, most of it covering battle sites from the Civil War.
