The speed limit on Route 30 (Dawn Boulevard) in Caroline County will be temporarily reduced from 55 mph to 35 mph between the Hanover County line and Signboard Road to promote traveler safety during the Virginia State Fair.
The temporary 35 mph speed limit will be posted from Friday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 7. Signs and portable message boards will be installed this week by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to notify motorists of the speed limit reduction.
The speed limit will be lowered for a distance of just over one mile.
“Traffic on Route 30 increases substantially during the State Fair of Virginia, and motorists must navigate temporary traffic patterns near the parking lot entrances and exits,” said Marcie Parker, VDOT Fredericksburg District Engineer. “We have decided to lower the speed limit to 35 mph over nine days for the safety of travelers and law enforcement personnel assisting with traffic control.
Lowering the speed limit gives motorists additional reaction time to adjust to new traffic patterns, and reduces the risk of crashes and injuries.”
“We want everyone to have a safe trip, whether you are passing through the area on Route 30 or visiting the fair,” Parker said. “Please help us ensure everyone arrives and departs safely by reducing your speed and giving your full attention to personnel directing traffic for the State Fair.”
