I-95 Work In The Fredericksburg Area

Motorists should anticipate multiple work zones midday and overnight on Interstate 95 northbound and southbound this week in the Fredericksburg area.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will suspend most highway work zones and lift lane closures on interstates and other major roads in Virginia from noon Friday, Dec. 22 until noon Tuesday, Dec. 26.
The following lane closures are planned, weather permitting:
Interstate 95 Southbound

• Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road) Stafford County
 Tuesday ˗˗ Wednesday, 2 a.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m. Thursday A single lane will close at 2 a.m. near Exit 140 to allow crews to remove temporary concrete barrier and for paving near the on-ramp to the interstate. All lanes will reopen by 10 a.m. the following morning. The on-ramp carrying traffic from Courthouse Road to I-95 southbound will also be narrowed to allow crews to work safely along the shoulder of the ramp. Drivers should be alert to construction crews and equipment working along the merge area and shoulder of the ramp. This work is connected to the Exit 140 interchange relocation and Courthouse Road widening project.

• Potomac Creek Bridge (mile marker 137) Stafford County
o Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m.
 A single lane will close at 9 p.m. at the Potomac Creek bridge followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. the following morning. Crews are working to continue a bridge improvement project. The Potomac Creek bridge is located at mile marker 137, just before Exit 136/Centreport Parkway.

• Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg)
o Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 9 a.m.
 A single right lane on I-95 southbound next Exit 130 will be closed to allow crews to work safely near the interchange.

• Exit 130B (Route 3) Off-Ramp
o Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. Thursday ˗˗ 6 a.m. Friday
 The Exit 130B off-ramp will be reduced to a single lane from I-95 southbound to westbound Route 3 as part of the I-95 interchange safety improvement project. All lanes will reopen at 1 p.m. the following day except on Friday, when all lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. Expect brief delays at the interchange.

• Exit 126 (Route 1/Massaponax) Spotsylvania County
o Monday ˗˗ Wednesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m.
 A single lane on I-95 southbound near Exit 126/Massaponax will close at 9 p.m. to allow crews to make repairs to the bridge over Route 1 followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 7 a.m. Expect overnight delays near the interchange.

• Exit 118 (Route 606/Mudd Tavern Road) Spotsylvania County
o Monday ˗˗ Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2:30 p.m.
 A single, left lane on I-95 southbound near Exit 118 will be closed near the interchange for construction activities. The work is related to the I-95 overpass replacement project and widening of Mudd Tavern Road.

• Mile Marker 112 Caroline County
o Wednesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 2 a.m.
 Expect the right two lanes on I-95 southbound to be closed at mile marker 112, which is near Exit 110/Ladysmith for pothole patching. Expect possible delays.

Interstate 95 Northbound

• Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road) Stafford County
o Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m.
 A single, right lane will be closed on I-95 northbound at Exit 140 for milling and paving near the on-ramp. The on-ramp carrying traffic from Courthouse Road to I-95 northbound will be narrowed to allow crews to work safely along the right lane and shoulder of the ramp. Drivers should be alert to construction crews and equipment working along the merge area and shoulder of the ramp.

• Potomac Creek Bridge (mile marker 137) Stafford County
o Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m.
 Expect alternating, single lane closures on I-95 northbound at the Potomac Creek bridge for a bridge rehabilitation project. The bridge is located at mile marker 137, just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway).

• Ni River Bridge (mile marker 121) Spotsylvania County
o Monday ˗˗ Wednesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.
 A single lane will close at 9 p.m. at the Ni River bridge followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning. Crews are working to continue a bridge improvement project. The Ni River bridge is located at mile marker 121, just south of Exit 126/Massaponax.

• Exit 118 (Route 606/Mudd Tavern Road) Spotsylvania County
o Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m.
 A single, left lane on I-95 northbound near Exit 118 will be closed near the interchange for construction activities.

Overhead message boards will warn travelers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and possible delays.
