Stafford County

Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. A single lane on southbound I-95 will be blocked a mile south of Exit 148 (Quantico) to allow crews to take soil samples for the future Fredericksburg extension of the Express Lanes, also known as “Fred Ex”. Motorists should anticipate minimal delays with this mobile work zone.
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. A single, left lane on I-95 southbound will be blocked near Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville) to allow crews to pave near the Express Lanes southern extension project.

Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. and Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. A single, left lane on I-95 northbound will be closed between Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) and Exit 143 (Garrisonville), as crews continue to work on the overhead signs for the southern extension of the Express Lanes south of Exit 143 (Route 610).

Route 17
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 6 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 17 between Sanford Drive and Village Parkway. Crews will be working to install traffic control devices at various intersections along Route 17. Be alert to crew and equipment with this mobile work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 17 Northbound
(New) Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. A single, right lane on northbound Route 17 (Warrenton Road) near Majestic Drive will be blocked to allow crews to repair and install guardrail. Expect brief delays.

Route 17 Southbound
(New) Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. A single, right lane on southbound Route 17 (Warrenton Road) near the Washington Street intersection will be blocked to allow crews to repair and install guardrail. Flaggers will direct motorists through the intersection. Expect brief delays.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
Monday ˗˗ Saturday, 8 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Motorists can expect alternating, single lane closures overnight on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) from Shenandoah Lane to Travis Lane as crews install a new drainage system. This work is connected to the Stafford County widening of Garrisonville Road.

Route 627 (Mountain View Road)
(New) Monday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. and Wednesday ˗˗ Saturday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Mountain View Road near Wood Drive and Pickett Lane. Crews will be milling and paving near the intersection of Mountain View High School. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect delays.

Route 630 (Courthouse Road)
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 2:30 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road between Austin Ridge Road and Reids Road to allow crews to install signs as construction will soon be underway to widen the road. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect delays.

Route 2140 (Pine View Road)
(New) Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Flaggers will alternate traffic on Pine View Road near Enon Road intersection to allow crews to repair and install guardrail. Expect brief delays through the work zone.

Interstate 95 Southbound
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Two lanes on I-95 southbound at the Ni River Bridge will be closed to allow crews to continue the bridge improvement project. The Ni River Bridge is located at mile marker 121, just south of Exit 126/Massaponax. A single lane will be closed at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will be open to traffic by 4:30 a.m. each day. Motorists should expect overnight delays.

Interstate 95 Northbound
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Two lanes on I-95 northbound at the Ni River Bridge will be closed to allow crews to continue the bridge improvement project. Route 1 at Hickory Ridge Road
(New) Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Expect single, alternating lane closures on southbound Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) near Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road) for a paving operation. Expect brief delays. This work is part of the intersection improvement project.

Route 3
(New) Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. A single, right lane on eastbound Route 3 near McLaws Drive will be blocked to allow crews to repair and install new guardrail. Expect brief delays near the work zone.

Route 208 (Courthouse Road)
(New) Monday ˗˗ Wednesday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Eastbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 208 (Courthouse Road) near Brittany Commons Boulevard. Crews will be installing guardrail. Expect brief delays.

Route 620 (Harrison Road)
(New) Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Traffic will be alternating, single lane on Harrison Road near Long Branch Way to allow crews to install guardrail. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect brief delays.
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 5:30 p.m. All lanes will remain open on Harrison Road near Route 1 but work will continue behind construction barrels as part of the project to build new turn lanes and improve the Route 1 and Harrison Road intersection.

Route 608 (Massaponax Church Road)
(Update) A section of Massaponax Church Road remains closed. Message boards are posted along the detour route on Massaponax Church Road, Route 1 and Route 17. A county capital project is underway to improve Massaponax Church Road near Route 17 (Mills Drive). Crews are working to improve the roadway alignment by removing two sharp, blind curves and adding shoulders. Drainage improvements will also be made.

Route 2237 (Lees Crossing Lane)
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗3:30 p.m. Motorists should be alert for a mobile work zone with crews and construction equipment on Lees Crossing Lane near Mine Road and Antietam Court. Crews will be making repairs to the handicapped accessible sidewalk ramps and pedestrian crossings throughout the neighborhood to include Lees Crossing Lane, McClellan Drive and Carolina Court. There may be temporary, intermittent lane closures with this work.

Route 17
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. A single, right lane will be blocked on northbound Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) near Route 301 (A.P. Hill Boulevard) to allow crews to install and repair guardrail. Expect brief delays near the work zone.

Route 626 (Mattaponi River Bridge)
(Update) Monday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone, one-way, alternating traffic on Route 626 (Woodford Road) at the Mattaponi River Bridge. Crews will be making repairs to the bridge. Expect brief delays.

Town of Bowling Green Sidewalk Project
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 6 p.m. A concrete sidewalk repair project is underway on Main Street in the Town of Bowling Green through August 21. Pedestrians can expect to see work on both sides of Main Street between East Broaddus Avenue and Milford Street. They will always have access to a sidewalk along one side of Main Street.

Route 17 near the Downing Bridge
(New) Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗2 p.m. Motorists should be alert for a mobile work zone with crews and construction equipment at various locations along Route 17 between Queen Street and Richmond Beach Road. Crews will make repairs to the handicapped accessible sidewalk ramps and pedestrian crossings in the town of Tappahannock. There may be temporary, intermittent lane closures with this work.

Route 205 (Ridge Road)

Route 218
(New) Monday ˗˗ Wednesday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Motorists will need to anticipate brief delays with one-way, alternating traffic on Route 218 (Caledon Road) near Vertical Ridge Road. Crews will be repairing and installing guardrail on the eastbound side of Caledon Road. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.

Route 218 and Route 206 Intersection
(New) Thursday, 7 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Crews will be working on the new traffic signal at the intersection of Route 218 (Caledon Road) and Route 206 (Dahlgren Road). Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. King George Sheriff’s Office will also assist with traffic control. Expect brief delays at the intersection.

Route 301
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on northbound and southbound Route 301 (James Madison Parkway) to allow crews to install guardrail near Washington Mill Road. Expect brief delays.

Route 625 (Salem Church Road)
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 5:30 p.m. Motorists can expect one-way traffic controlled by flaggers on a portion of Route 625 (Salem Church Road), east of Route 650 (Welcome Lane). Crews are working to realign, widen and improve drainage along Salem Church Road.

King and Queen County

Route 360 (Richmond Highway)
(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Expect a single, right lane on westbound Route 360 (Richmond Highway) to be blocked near River Road to allow crews to repair and install guardrail. Drivers should anticipate brief delays near the work zone.

Route 721 (Newtown Road)
(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Expect one-way, alternating traffic on Route 721 (Newtown Road) at the Chapel Hill Swamp Bridge. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Crews will be making repairs to the bridge. Expect brief delays.

King William County

Route 30 near 15th Street
Wednesday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. Motorists should be alert for a mobile work zone with crews and construction equipment on Route 30 (King William Road) near 15th Street and Euclid Boulevard. Crews will make repairs to the handicapped accessible sidewalk ramps and pedestrian crossings. There may be temporary, intermittent lane closures with this work.

Lancaster County/Middlesex County

Robert. O. Norris Bridge
Temporary traffic signals are in full operation mode at the center spans of the Norris Bridge on Route 3 between Lancaster and Middlesex counties. Two temporary traffic signals control one-way, alternating traffic at the bridge’s center spans 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Crews are using the closed lane to paint the center spans of the bridge over the Rappahannock River. The signals will remain in place until the end of the painting project in June 2018.

Lancaster County

Route 200 (Irvington Road)
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Crews will be installing guardrail on Route 200 (Irvington Road) near Woods Drive and King Carter Drive. Expect alternating lane closures and brief delays.

Northumberland County

Route 200 (Jesse DuPont Memorial Highway)
(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. A single, right lane on Route 200 (Jesse DuPont Memorial Highway) will be blocked to allow crews to install guardrail near Mt. Olive Road. Expect brief delays near the work zone.

Richmond County

Route 3 (Historyland Highway)
(New) Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 3 (Historyland Highway near Route 360 (Richmond Road) and Richmond Hill Road for a milling and paving operation.

Route 608 (Farham Creek Bridge)
(New) Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone, one-way, alternating traffic on Route 608 at the Farham Creek Bridge. Crews will be making repairs to the bridge. Expect brief delays.

Westmoreland County

Route 621(North Tidwells Road)
(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Motorists should expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 621 (North Tidwells Road) at the Naomi Creek Bridge. Crews will be installing guardrail on the right side of the road near the bridge. Expect brief delays at the bridge approaches.

Secondary Route Paving
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations or a pilot vehicle on various low volume secondary routes throughout Westmoreland County, as crews continue a paving and a surface treatment project.

Highway Improvement Projects

City of Fredericksburg

Interstate 95 at Route 3 (Exit 130)
Construction is underway to improve safety on Interstate 95 and Route 3 at the Exit 130 interchange in the city of Fredericksburg. The project will modify the interchange ramps and lower crash risk by eliminating conflict points where vehicles currently merge and weave. Motorists should be prepared for lane closures, construction activity, and temporary traffic shifts on Route 3 and I-95 at Exit 130 through January 2019, when the project is expected to be complete.

Route 1 Bridge Rehabilitation Project at Hazel Run
Work to improve the Route 1 bridge over Hazel Run in the city of Fredericksburg is underway. The bridge is located on Route 1 between Idlewood Boulevard and Kings Mill Drive. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment and crews working along the shoulder until early spring. All travel lanes will be open in the work zone. The bridge rehabilitation project is expected to be complete in May 2017.

Stafford County

I-95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus Extension
Construction is underway to extend 95 Express Lanes in Stafford County. The approximate 2.5 mile extension will carry traffic beyond the flyover ramp where 95 Express Lanes currently end, just north of Exit 143/Route 610 (Garrisonville Road). The new southbound exit ramp is scheduled to open by early 2018, and the northbound entrance ramp will open in summer 2018.

I-95/Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Widening and Interchange Relocation
Preliminary geotechnical work is underway on a project to improve the I-95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project includes building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Rd. and Rt. 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, widen Courthouse Rd. to four lanes, and add a traffic signal at the entrance to Colonial Forge High School. Construction to widen Courthouse Road will begin in summer 2017, and the entire project is expected to be complete by summer 2020.

Route 610 Widening Project
Stafford County is widening Route 610 from four to six lanes between Onville Road and Eustace Road. Utility relocation is underway.

Spotsylvania County

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Interstate 95 Overpass Replacement and Road Improvements
The project to build a new I-95 overpass on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road), provide improvements to interstate ramps, Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95 and Mallard Road is underway. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment on I-95 between mile marker 119 and Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg), Mudd Tavern Road, and Mallard Road. Construction for the $22.4 million project is expected to be complete by September 2019.
Route 1 and Route 620 (Harrison Road)
Construction to build additional turn lanes and extend existing turn lanes is underway at the intersection of Route 1 and Harrison Road. Motorists should be alert for construction crews and equipment. Project completion is May 2018.

Route 1 and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road)
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road) to improve traffic flow by adding and extending turn lanes. Motorists should be alert to crews working along the shoulders at the intersection. Project completion is July 11, 2017.

Caroline County

Route 17 and Route 301 Intersection
Crews are upgrading the existing signal equipment at the intersection of Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) and Route 301 (A.P. Hill Boulevard). The modernized signal equipment will be fastened to mast arms from signal poles and will be aligned properly with the travel lanes. Most construction work will occur outside of travel lanes until spring 2017. The project is expected to be complete in fall 2017.

Route 662 (Gregory Road) Bridge Replacement
Crews will begin replacing the structurally deficient bridge over Reedy Creek on Gregory Road. A detour will be in place for approximately six weeks while construction is underway. Crews will replace the existing steel beams, deck and guardrail with a 40-foot long concrete slab bridge on new concrete abutments. The length of the two-lane bridge will almost be doubled following this project. New bridge delineators will also be installed. Bridge delineators are small traffic signs to provide night reflection and help guide traffic along the new bridge. Following final inspection of the bridge, the current weight limit posting is expected to be removed.

Caroline County/King George County

Route 301 at Rappahannock River
Bridge rehabilitation is underway on the James Madison Memorial Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Maintenance will occur below the bridge deck and includes repairing concrete, replacing bearings, shoring up rip-rap on the slope, and replacing navigation lights. All lanes are currently open on the bridge, but single lane closures will be in place periodically. Project completion is October 2017.

Gloucester County

Route 662 (Allmondsville Road) Bridge Replacement
Crews are replacing a structurally deficient bridge on Allmondsville Road over Fox Creek. The road is closed to through traffic at the bridge during construction. Motorists should follow the posted signs along the detour route. The project will be completed in April 2018.

Northumberland County

Route 360 (Northumberland Highway)
Construction is underway to extend the existing left turn lane and construct an additional left turn lane on Route 360 (Northumberland Highway) at Academic Lane. Motorists can expect periodic lane closures on Route 360 throughout the day, Monday through Friday. The Route 360 and Academic Lane intersection is located near the Northumberland County high school, middle school and elementary school campus. The project will enhance safety at the intersection that serves the campus and improve roadway drainage in the area. Work is expected to be complete in October 2017.
