Special Alert Interstate 95 Prince William County

Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Beginning 10 p.m. Friday, May 19 ˗˗ 6 a.m. Monday, May 22. Interstate 95 southbound will be reduced to two lanes near Exit 156 in Dale City. Crews will be conducting large-scale deck repairs to the bridge over Neabsco Creek. Ramps from eastbound, westbound Dale Boulevard to southbound I-95 will be closed, along with the car-only safety rest area. Congestion and delays are expected to be extensive. Drivers are urged to avoid southbound I-95 in Prince William County. If possible, use alternate routes.

Stafford County

Interstate 95 Express Lanes
(Update) Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Mobile, alternating lane closures for maintenance work on I-95 Express Lanes from just north of the entrance by Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville) to Quantico.

Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) Monday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Motorists will be restricted to two lanes on I-95 northbound near Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) as crews take soil samples for the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension.

(New) Wednesday 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Motorists will be restricted to two lanes on I-95 northbound near Exit 148 (Quantico) as crews take soil samples for the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension.

(Update) Wednesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. -˗ 4:30 a.m. Interstate 95 northbound will be reduced to two lanes between Exit 140/Courthouse Road and Exit 143/Garrisonville Road while crews continue to work as part of the I-95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus Extension project.

Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Thursday 9:30 p.m. – 6 a.m. Motorists will be restricted to two lanes on I-95 southbound near Exit 140 (Route 610/Garrisonville) as crews take soil samples for the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7:30 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Motorists can expect alternating single lane closures overnight on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) from Shenandoah Lane to Travis Lane as crews install a new drainage system. This work is connected to the Stafford County widening of Garrisonville Road.

Route 612 (Hartwood Road)
(New) Monday, 11 a.m. ˗˗ 1 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 612 (Hartwood Road) from Shackelford Well Road to Richland Road. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect brief delays for this utility and permit work.

Route 627 (Mountain View Road)
(New) Monday, 11 a.m. ˗˗ 1 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 627 (Mountain View Road) near Kellogg Mill Road. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect brief delays for this utility and permit work.

Spotsylvania County

Interstate 95 Southbound
(Update) Monday˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. and Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Two lanes on I-95 southbound at the Ni River bridge will be closed to allow crews to continue the bridge improvement project. The Ni River bridge is located at mile marker 121, just south of Exit 126/Massaponax. Motorists should expect overnight delays.

Route 1 and Route 620 (Harrison Road) Intersection
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays and intermittent, single lane closures on Route 620 (Harrison Road) as construction continues to build new turn lanes and improve the Route 1 and Harrison Road intersection.

Route 1 and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road)
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. A single right lane on southbound Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) will be blocked near Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road). Expect brief delays. This work is in part of the intersection improvement project.

Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road)
Monday ˗˗ Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road) will be closed to through traffic between Route 1 and Route 608 (Massaponax Church Road) to allow crews to install two culvert pipes underneath the road. Residents living on the closed portion will be permitted to enter the work zone to access their homes.

Route 3
(Update) Sunday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Crews will replace the lens on pavement markers at various locations on Route 3 (Plank Road) from Gordon Road to Gateway Drive. Motorists should expect brief delays and be alert to slow moving vehicles in this mobile work zone.

Route 17
(New) Monday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Crews will replace the lens on pavement markers at various locations on Route 17 (Mills Drive) from the Caroline County line to Lee Hill School Drive. Motorists should expect brief delays and be alert to slow moving vehicles in this mobile work zone.

Lancaster Gate
Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will continue paving work and place shoulder stone in the Lancaster Gate subdivision. Motorists should be alert for mobile, single lane closures and for crews and equipment.

Routine Maintenance
Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

Caroline County

Route 17 and Route 301 Intersection
(New) 7 a.m. Wednesday ˗˗ 7 a.m. Friday. Crews will work 24 hours a day, over two consecutive days, to erect and install new traffic signal poles at the Route 17 and Route 301 intersection. There will be alternating lane closures at the intersection. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Motorists should expect brief delays and be alert to crews, construction equipment and law enforcement directing traffic.

Route 207 Northbound
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays and alternating lane closures on northbound Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) for milling and paving from the Mattaponi River to Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road).

Route 207 Southbound
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays and alternating lane closures on southbound Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) for milling and paving from the bridge over Route 301 (A.P. Hill Boulevard) to just south of Route 207 Business.

Route 653 (Burruss Lane)
(New) Monday ˗˗ Sunday, May 21 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Traffic will be alternating on Route 653 (Burruss Lane). Crews will install guardrail along the road, just west of Route 301 (Richmond Turnpike). Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.

Route 218 and Route 206 Intersection
(New) Wednesday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. and Thursday, 7 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m. Crews will be installing signs, signals and pavement markings at the Route 218 (Caledon Road) and Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) intersection. This work is part of the project to install a new traffic signal at this intersection. Traffic will be alternating through the intersection. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 218
(New) Tuesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Crews will replace the lens on pavement markers at various locations on Route 218 near Route 609 (Common Road), Dahlgren Road, Owens Drive and Route 301 (James Madison Parkway). Motorists should expect brief delays and should be alert to slow moving vehicles in this mobile work zone.

Route 625
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 5:30 p.m. Motorists can expect one-way traffic controlled by flaggers on a portion of Route 625 (Salem Church Road), east of Route 650 (Welcome Lane). Crews are starting a project next week to realign, widen and improve drainage along Salem Church Road. The project is expected to be complete by fall 2017.

Essex County

Route 17
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be milling and paving Route 17 from just south of Route 654 (Belle Meade Road) to the Caroline County line. Motorists should expect brief delays and alternating lane closures in the work zone.

King William County

Route 360
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Crews will be making deck repairs to the Route 360 bridge over Moncuin Creek, located approximately three miles north of the Hanover County line. Motorists should anticipate alternating lane closures and brief delays.

Middlesex County/Lancaster County

Robert. O. Norris Bridge
(Update) 8 p.m. Sunday ˗˗ 8 p.m. Saturday. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 3 at the Norris Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Crews are installing new concrete on a portion of the bridge’s riding surface, after crews remove temporary asphalt patches and deteriorated concrete. Automated flagging stations will control one-way traffic.

Lancaster County

Route 200
Tuesday ˗˗ Friday, 7:30 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 200 (South Main Street) near Route 607 (Goodluck Road) and Route 3. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect brief delays for this utility and permit work for Dominion Power.

Secondary Route Paving
Monday˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations or a pilot vehicle on various low volume secondary routes throughout Lancaster County.

Northumberland County

Route 360
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays and single lane closures on Route 360 (Northumberland Highway) for guardrail repair between Route 653 (Whays Creek Road) and Route 646 (Waverly Road) on Monday. From Tuesday through Friday, crews will be installing guardrail on Route 360 between Route 757 (Quinton Oaks Lane) and Route 202 (Hampton Hall Road).

Route 360 at Academic Lane
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Motorists should expect periodic lane closures and brief delays on Route 360 at Academic Lane. Crews will begin mobilizing this week to extend the existing left turn lane and construct an additional left turn lane on Route 360. This intersection is located near three schools. This project will enhance safety at the intersection that serves the school campuses and improve roadway drainage in the area.

Highway Improvement Projects

City of Fredericksburg

Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park), as well as on Mary Washington Boulevard.

Route 1 Bridge Rehabilitation Project at Hazel Run
Work to improve the Route 1 bridge over Hazel Run in the city of Fredericksburg is underway. The bridge is located on Route 1 between Idlewood Boulevard and Kings Mill Drive. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment and crews working along the shoulder until early spring. All travel lanes will be open in the work zone. The bridge rehabilitation project is expected to be complete in May 2017.

Stafford County

95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus Extension
Construction is underway to extend 95 Express Lanes in Stafford County. The approximate 2.5 mile extension will carry traffic beyond the flyover ramp where 95 Express Lanes currently end, just north of Exit 143/Route 610 (Garrisonville Road). The new southbound exit ramp is scheduled to open by early 2018, and the northbound entrance ramp will open in summer 2018.

I-95/Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Widening and Interchange Relocation
Preliminary geotechnical work is underway on a project to improve the I-95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project includes building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Rd. and Rt. 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, widen Courthouse Rd. to four lanes, and add a traffic signal at the entrance to Colonial Forge High School. Construction to widen Courthouse Road will begin in summer 2017, and the entire project is expected to be complete by summer 2020.

Route 610 Widening Project
Stafford County is widening Route 610 from four to six lanes between Onville Road and Eustace Road. Utility relocation is underway.

Spotsylvania County

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Interstate 95 Overpass Replacement and Road Improvements
The project to build a new I-95 overpass on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road), provide improvements to interstate ramps, Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95 and Mallard Road is underway. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment on I-95 between mile marker 119 and Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg), Mudd Tavern Road, and Mallard Road. Construction for the $22.4 million project is expected to be complete by September 2019.
Route 1 and Route 620 (Harrison Road)
Construction to build additional turn lanes and extend existing turn lanes is underway at the intersection of Route 1 and Harrison Road. Motorists should be alert for construction crews and equipment. Project completion is May 2018.

Route 1 and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road)
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road) to improve traffic flow by adding and extending turn lanes. Motorists should be alert to crews working along the shoulders at the intersection. Project completion is July 11, 2017.

Caroline County

Route 17 and Route 301 Intersection
Crews are upgrading the existing signal equipment at the intersection of Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) and Route 301 (A.P. Hill Boulevard). The modernized signal equipment will be fastened to mast arms from signal poles and will be aligned properly with the travel lanes. Most construction work will occur outside of travel lanes until spring 2017. The project is expected to be complete in fall 2017.

Caroline County/King George County

Route 301 at Rappahannock River
Bridge rehabilitation is underway on the James Madison Memorial Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Maintenance will occur below the bridge deck and includes repairing concrete, replacing bearings, shoring up rip-rap on the slope, and replacing navigation lights. All lanes are currently open on the bridge, but single lane closures will be in place periodically. Project completion is October 2017.

Caroline County/King and Queen County

Route 721 (Newtown Road)
Construction is underway to build a new bridge over Beverly Creek at the Caroline County and King and Queen County line. Motorists are restricted to a single lane controlled by a temporary traffic signal in the work zone. The project is expected to be complete in July 2017.

King George County

Route 218/Route 206 Intersection
Crews will be working to install a new traffic signal at the Route 218 (Caledon Road) and Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) intersection. Most construction work will occur outside the existing travel lanes until spring 2017. Project completion is fall 2017.

Gloucester County

Route 662 (Allmondsville Road) Bridge Replacement
Crews are replacing a structurally deficient bridge on Allmondsville Road over Fox Creek. The road is closed to through traffic at the bridge during construction. Motorists should follow the posted signs along the detour route. The project will be completed in April 2018.
