(Spotsylvania)- From Spotsylvania Fire, Rescue & Emergency Management

On April 11, 2017 at approximately 10:13 pm, the Spotsylvania Emergency Communications Center began to receive phone calls from concerned citizens reporting a residential structure fire at their neighbor’s house located in the 11800 block of Dudley Court. Within minutes, crews from six stations, and an automatic aide company from Fredericksburg were dispatched and responded to fight the fire, and to provide any emergency medical care needed. The first units arrived at 10:19 pm, approximately five minutes after being dispatched, to find a house well-involved in fire. Because of the advanced development of the fire, and a partial roof collapse shortly after their arrival, crews conducted an aggressive exterior attack on the fire with hoselines and elevated streams from aerial ladders, while also conducting a defensive operation to protect adjacent homes from the flames.

Within minutes of arrival, crews determined there were no occupants in the home, although there was one minor injury to a neighbor who received a laceration while breaking windows in an attempt to locate anyone that may have been inside. The fire was brought under control approximately 50 minutes from the time the 911 call was received. The cause and origin of the fire is currently under investigation. The Department would like to remind our community that a working smoke alarm can provide the early notice required to alert your family of a fire and increase the chances of a successful escape from a burning building. Check your smoke alarm batteries monthly, and change them when in the Spring and Fall when you change your clocks.
