Stafford County

Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Two lanes will be closed on I-95 southbound at mile marker 135 to Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) to allow crews to make bridge deck repairs to the bridge over Route 17. Crews will replace temporary asphalt patches on the bridge deck with concrete to provide a smoother, more durable travel surface and avoid potholes. A single lane will be closed at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will be open to traffic by 6 a.m.

Interstate 95 Southbound
(Update) Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ noon. A single left lane and left shoulder on I-95 southbound will be blocked from mile marker 138 to mile marker 134 which is near Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) for a mobile work zone. A crew will be taking soil samples, as part of the I-95/Courthouse Interchange Relocation and widening project.

Interstate 95 Northbound
(Update) Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. A single lane will be closed between mile marker 141 near Exit 140 (Route 630/Stafford) and mile marker 146 near Quantico. Crews will install overhead sign foundations as part of the I-95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus extension.

Interstate 95 Northbound
(Update) Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ noon. A single left lane and left shoulder on I-95 northbound will be blocked from mile marker 139 to mile marker 141 just past Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road) for a mobile work zone. A crew will be taking soil samples, as part of the I-95/Courthouse Interchange Relocation and widening project.

Route 1 Northbound
(New) Sunday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane on Route 1 northbound at Austin Run near Coal Landing Road and Foreston Woods Drive for a mobile paving and striping operation. Expect delays through the work zone.

Route 1 Southbound

Route 1 at Telegraph Road
(New) Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Expect single lane traffic on Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) northbound and southbound from Woodstock Lane to Telegraph Road for utility and permit work. Expect delays through the work zone.

Route 1 at Coachman Circle
(Update) Wednesday, 7 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Crews will remove jersey barriers, eradicate temporary striping and restore original striping on Route 1 near Coachman Circle. Crews will remove the temporary work zone installed as part of construction of the new Aquia Hilton Extended Stay Hotel Home2Suites. Crews will open the continuous center lane for left turns onto Coachman Circle. Motorists should anticipate single lane closures on southbound Route 1 overnight between the two entrances to Coachman Circle.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Onville Road Intersection
(New) Saturday − Tuesday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile lane closures at Garrisonville Road and Onville Road intersection for paving, pavement markings and final construction activities. Traffic pattern will shift as work progresses. Weather permitting, on Wednesday morning, motorists should anticipate new turn lanes built at the intersection will open to traffic after 5 a.m.

Route 610 at Shenandoah Lane
Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Motorists can expect alternating single lane closures overnight on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) from Shenandoah Lane to Travis Lane. Crews will be conducting pipe work to install a new drainage system. This work is in regards to the Stafford County widening of Garrisonville Road.

Chatham Bridge
(New) Sunday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane and alternating on the Chatham Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Crews will continue to work to improve sidewalks and railings on the bridge between Stafford County and the city of Fredericksburg. Pedestrian access may be restricted to one side of the bridge overnight when crews are working.

Route 208
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays and flagging operations on Route 208 (Courthouse Road) for guardrail repair near Route 793.

Route 618
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Drivers should expect delays on Route 618 (River Road) between Route 3 (Plank Road) and Route 639 (Bragg Road) for pavement repair. Flaggers and a pilot truck will direct motorists through the work zone, one lane at a time.

Route 620 (Harrison Road)
(Update) Monday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. Motorists should follow flaggers directions on eastbound Route 620 (Harrison Road) just west of Route 1, while crews begin paving operations. Fall Hill Avenue
Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and flagging operations on Fall Hill Avenue near Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard going towards the new traffic circle near the Rappahannock Canal. Crews will begin milling the asphalt. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Mary Washington Boulevard
Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard as part of the Fall Hill Avenue widening project. Motorists should stay alert for ongoing work in the median with crews working to install new curb and paving.

Caroline County

Route 301
(Update)Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 8 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Traffic will be down to a single lane on Route 301 northbound approximately three miles south of Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) for guardrail repair. Expect brief delays through the work zone.

Route 652
(New) Sunday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions on Route 652 (Ruther Glen Road) near Holly Ridge Lane and Chesterfield Road, as crews inspect the bridge over the CSX railroad tracks. Expect delays near the bridge and through the work zone.

(New) Sunday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 684 (Dry Bridge Road) between Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) and Jesse Lane, as crews inspect the bridge over the CSX railroad tracks. Expect delays near the bridge and through the work zone.

(New) Thursday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Traffic will be down to one lane on Route 205 (Ridge Road) near Route 621 (Pine Hill Road) to install guardrail. Expect brief delays through the work zone.

King William County

Lord Delaware Bridge
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. . Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 33 on the Lord Delaware Bridge in West Point, as crews inspect the bridge over the Mattaponi River. Expect delays near the bridge and through the work zone.

Middlesex County/Lancaster County

Robert. O. Norris Bridge
Monday ˗˗ Saturday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 3 at the Norris Bridge, as preparation work continues to paint the bridge’s three center spans. The project contractor has started installing the platform system required to paint the bridge. An automated flagging station at the bridge approach will control one-way traffic across the Rappahannock River, one direction at a time. Motorists should expect delays of 10-15 minutes around 7 a.m. as workers set up the work zone and approximately five minutes the remainder of the day. VDOT personnel will monitor traffic conditions.

Lancaster County

Route 200
(Update) Tuesday ˗˗ Friday, 7:30 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Traffic will be down to a single lane on Route 200 (South Main Street) near Route 607 (Goodluck Road) and Route 3. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect brief delays for this utility and permit work.

Northumberland County

Route 202
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays on Route 202 (Hampton Hall Road) for a paving operation between Westmoreland/Northumberland County line, Hampton Hall Creek bridge to Route 360 (Northumberland Highway). Flaggers will direct motorists through the mobile work zone. Expect brief delays.

Richmond County

Route 3
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures and brief delays on Route 3 (Historyland Highway) between Route 608 (Farnham Creek Road) and Route 601 (Maon Road) for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect brief delays with alternating lane traffic.

Secondary Route Paving
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations or a pilot vehicle on various secondary routes throughout the county for the next two weeks for paving operations. Routes include: 602, 623, 629, 633, 637, 638, 641, 642, 645, 656, 663, 665, 673, 674, 701, 710 and 1027.

Westmoreland County

Route 3
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Motorists should expect intermittent single lane closures on Route 3 (Kings Highway) between Route 634 (Meadow Lane) and Route 205 (James Monroe Highway). Crews will be paving along this stretch of highway. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 202
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays on Route 202 (Cople Highway) for a paving operation between Route 604 (Sandy Point Road) and the Westmoreland/Northumberland County line. Flaggers will direct motorists through the mobile work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 628
(Update) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Crews will be placing stone along the shoulder on Route 628 (Stoney Knoll) between Route 633 (Holly Vista Road) and Route 205 (James Monroe Highway). Expect alternating lane closures for this mobile work zone. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 638
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 638 (Leedstown Road) between Route 637 (Rappahannock Road) and Route 636 (Cottage Farm Road) for a paving operation. Flaggers will direct motorists through the mobile work zone. Expect brief delays.

Highway Improvement Projects

City of Fredericksburg

Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park), as well as on Mary Washington Boulevard. Project completion is January 2017.

Route 1/ Hazel Run Bridge Rehabilitation Project
Work to improve the Route 1 bridge over Hazel Run in the city of Fredericksburg is underway. The bridge is located on Route 1 between Idlewood Boulevard and Kings Mill Drive. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment and crews working along the shoulder until early spring. All travel lanes will be open in the work zone. The bridge rehabilitation project is expected to be complete in May 2017.

Stafford County

95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus Extension
Construction is underway to extend 95 Express Lanes in Stafford County. The approximate 2.5 mile extension will carry traffic beyond the flyover ramp where 95 Express Lanes currently end, just north of Exit 143/Route 610 (Garrisonville Road). The new southbound exit ramp is scheduled to open by early 2018, and the northbound entrance ramp will open in summer 2018.

I-95/Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Widening and Interchange Relocation
Preliminary geotechnical work is underway on a project to improve the I-95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project includes building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Rd. and Rt. 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, widen Courthouse Rd. to four lanes, and add a traffic signal at the entrance to Colonial Forge High School. Construction to widen Courthouse Road will begin in summer 2017, and the entire project is expected to be complete by summer 2020.

Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) to build additional turn lanes. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction on Onville Road. Project completion is May 2017.

Route 610 Widening Project
Stafford County is widening Route 610 from four to six lanes between Onville Road and Eustace Road. Utility relocation is underway.

Spotsylvania County

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) Interstate 95 Overpass Replacement and Road Improvements
The project to build a new I-95 overpass on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road), provide improvements to interstate ramps, Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95 and Mallard Road is underway. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment on I-95 between mile marker 119 and Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg), Mudd Tavern Road, and Mallard Road. Construction for the $22.4 million project is expected to be complete by September 2019.
Route 1 and Route 620 (Harrison Road)
Construction to build additional turn lanes and extend existing turn lanes is underway at the intersection of Route 1 and Harrison Road in Spotsylvania County. Motorists should be alert for construction crews and equipment. Project completion is May 2018.

Route 1 and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road)
Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road) to improve traffic flow by adding and extending turn lanes. Motorists should be alert to crews working along the shoulders at the intersection. Project completion is July 11, 2017.

Route 622 Bridge Improvement Project
Route 622 (Fairview Road) just west of Route 601 (Wallers Road) will be closed to through traffic for a bridge improvement project. The bridge over Northeast Creek is located between Wallers Road and Lewistown Road. A detour will be in place for approximately six weeks while construction is underway. Crews will be replacing the existing bridge’s steel beams, deck with new timber, steel and guardrail, while also making repairs to the vertical walls and foundation. Motorists need to follow the signs along the recommended detour.

Caroline County

Route 17 and Route 301 Intersection
Crews are currently working to upgrade the existing signal equipment at the intersection of Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) and Route 301 (A.P. Hill Boulevard). The modernized signal equipment will be fastened to mast arms from signal poles and will be aligned properly with the travel lanes. Most construction work will occur outside the existing travel lanes till this spring. The project is expected to be complete in the fall.

Route 653 Bridge Improvement Project

Route 653 (Burruss Lane) west of Route 301 (Richmond Turnpike) will be closed to through traffic for a bridge improvement project. The bridge over Reedy Creek is located on Burruss Lane between Route 662 (Gregory Road) and Route 652 (Signboard Road). A detour will be in place for approximately two weeks while construction is underway. Motorists need to follow the signs along the recommended detour. Crews will replace steel beams, deck with new timber, steel and guardrail, while also making repairs to the vertical walls and foundation.

Caroline County/King George County

Route 301 at Rappahannock River
Bridge rehabilitation is underway on the James Madison Memorial Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Maintenance will occur below the bridge deck and includes repairing concrete, replacing bearings, shoring up rip-rap on the slope, and replacing navigation lights. All lanes are currently open on the bridge, but single lane closures will be in place periodically. Project completion is October 2017.

Caroline County/King and Queen County

Route 721 (Newtown Road)
Construction is underway to build a new bridge over Beverly Creek at the Caroline County and King and Queen County line. Motorists are restricted to a single lane controlled by a temporary traffic signal in the work zone. The project is expected to be complete in July 2017.

King George County

Route 218/Route 206 Intersection
Crews will be working to install a new traffic signal at the Route 218 (Caledon Road) and Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) intersection. Most construction work will occur outside the existing travel lanes till spring 2017. Project completion is fall 2017.
