Two Suspects in Police Custody for Kidnapping/Robbery

(Fredericksburg)- From City Police:

On Wednesday, January 4th, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Officer C. Perdue responded to the 400 block of Maple Court for a report of a robbery. Upon arriving, Officer Perdue found the victim outside of his apartment. The victim reported that two males, one known to the victim, forced entry into his apartment, tied him up, and robbed him at gunpoint. One of the suspects was seen leaving in a burgundy sedan. The vehicle description was sent to law enforcement agencies in surrounding jurisdictions. While Officer Perdue was gathering information from the victim, a Spotsylvania County deputy saw a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The driver was identified as 33-year old Christopher Tharrington of Stafford County. Tharrington was taken into police custody and was arrested on charges of abduction, robbery, breaking and entering, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Tharrington was transported to Rappahannock Regional Jail and is being held without bond.

The second suspect was identified as 25-year old Christopher Smith of no fixed address and was taken into police custody Friday,by the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office. Smith was arrested on charges of abduction, robbery, breaking and entering, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

The Fredericksburg Police Department would like to thank the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with locating and securing both suspects.
