Routine Maintenance

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

•Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) – tree trimming
•Route 607 (Cool Springs Road) – shoulder work
•Route 607 (Deacon Road) – shoulder work

Interstate 95 Northbound

(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Wednesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. A single right lane on northbound I-95 at mile marker 131, which is the Fall Hill Avenue overpass, will be blocked for construction activities. Motorists should be alert to the crew working on the bridge piers.

Interstate 95 Southbound

(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. A single right lane on southbound I-95 at mile marker 131, which is the Fall Hill Avenue overpass, will be blocked for construction activities. Motorists should be alert to the crew working on the bridge piers.

Route 1 Southbound

(New) Monday, noon – 3 p.m. and Tuesday –Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Right turn lane closed intermittently for construction of curb and gutter as part of extension of Mary Washington Boulevard, which is part of the Fall Hill Avenue widening project.

Fall Hill Avenue

(New) On Wednesday, motorists should be prepared for a slight traffic shift on Fall Hill Avenue between Briscoe Lane and Carl D. Silver Parkway. Westbound traffic will be pushed over onto the new pavement while crews finish up work in the median. Eastbound traffic will not be affected.

In addition, motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the Rappahannock Canal Monday, Noon – 3 p.m., Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ noon.

Mary Washington Boulevard

Monday ˗˗ Saturday, 24 hours

. Motorists should stay alert for ongoing work in the median of Mary Washington Boulevard between Route 1 and Sam Perry Boulevard as part of the Fall Hill Avenue widening project. Crews will be working to install new curb and paving. Lanes will remain open, but will be narrowed. Work will be underway in this area until the project is complete in January 2017.

Spotsylvania County

Routine Maintenance

Caroline County

Route 721 (Sparta Road) Bridge Work

Motorists are reminded that Route 721 (Sparta Road) is closed to through traffic at the Maracossic Creek bridge for approximately four weeks, weather permitting. VDOT crews are upgrading the bridge with new steel beams, new timber, and guardrail. The bridge is located near Route 640 (Maracossic Drive) and Route 645 (Pendleton Road.) Signs and message boards are posted along the recommended detour route.

Essex County/Richmond County

Route 360 at Downing Bridge

Tuesday ˗˗ Sunday, starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday ˗˗ 11:59 p.m. Sunday. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 360 at the Downing Bridge over the Rappahannock River located between Essex and Richmond counties. Crews will paint the structural steel on the bridge near Tappahannock. Flaggers will direct traffic in the work zone. Weather permitting, this will be the final week of bridge painting and lane closures on the Downing Bridge associated with this work. VDOT personnel will monitor traffic conditions on Route 360 and Route 17 during the work zone.

Route 17

(Update) Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will install snow plowable pavement markers on Route 17 at the following locations. Motorists should expect brief delays in these mobile work zones:

•Route 17 Northbound − from the north end of the Piscataway Creek Bridge to Route 360 at Bray’s Fork.

•Route 17 Northbound − from the north end of the Mt. Landing Creek Bridge to just north of Route 712 (Laurel Point Road).

Essex County

Route 17

(Update) Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be installing snow plowable pavement markers on Route 17 at the following locations. Motorists should expect brief delays in these mobile work zones:

•Route 17 Northbound − from the north end of the Piscataway Creek Bridge to Route 360 at Bray’s Fork.

•Route 17 Northbound − from the north end of the Mt. Landing Creek Bridge to just north of Route 712 (Laurel Point Road).

Route 360 at Piscataway Creek

(Update) Sunday – Saturday. Motorists will be restricted to one lane 24 hours a day on Route 360 at the bridge over Piscataway Creek while crews continue painting the structural steel on the bridge. Flaggers will direct traffic in the work zone.

King William County

Route 30 Paving

Crews will continue striping, placing shoulder stone, or installing snow plowable markers on Route 30 at the following locations. Be alert and expect brief delays in the mobile work zone from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Monday, 7 a.m.˗˗ 7 p.m. Crews will place stone along the shoulder on a one-mile stretch of Route 613 (Dunluce Road) near Route 618 (Acquinton Church Road.)

Route 14

(Update) Monday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be striping on Route 14 from the King and Queen County line to Route 17 (start of divided median). Motorists should be prepared for brief delays in the mobile work zone.

Route 614

(Update) Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Motorists should be alert on Route 614 (Hickory Ford Rd.) from Route 606 (Ark Rd.) to Route 610 (Pinetta Rd.) which is approximately a two-mile stretch. Crews will be placing stone along the shoulder of the road.

King & Queen County

Route 14

(Update) Monday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Crews will be striping on Route 14 (The Trail) between Route 33 (Lewis Puller Memorial Highway) to the King & Queen/Gloucester County line by the Poropotank River Bridge. Motorists should be prepared for brief delays in the mobile work zone.

Lancaster County

Route 3

Tuesday ˗˗ Wednesday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Crews will be replacing guardrail at various locations on Route 3 in Lancaster County. Motorists should be prepared for intermittent single lane closures at various locations.

Route 200 at Carters Creek

(Update) Monday, Dec. 5 ˗˗ Saturday, Dec. 10 Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 200 at the bridge over Carters Creek 24 hours a day while crews continue to paint the structural steel on the bridge. Flaggers will direct traffic in the work zone.

Mathews County

Route 3

(Update) Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Crews will be striping on Route 3 near Route 701 (Green Point) and Route 198 (Buckley Hall Road). Motorists should be prepared for brief delays in the mobile work zone.

Highway Improvement Projects

City of Fredericksburg

Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project

Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park), as well as on Mary Washington Boulevard. Project completion is January 2017.

Stafford County

95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus Extension

Construction is underway to extend 95 Express Lanes in Stafford County. The approximate 2.5 mile extension will carry traffic beyond the flyover ramp where 95 Express Lanes currently end, just north of Exit 143/Route 610 (Garrisonville Road). The new southbound exit ramp is scheduled to open by early 2018, and the northbound entrance ramp will open in summer 2018.

Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project

Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) to build additional turn lanes. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction on Onville Road. Project completion is May 2017.

Route 609 (Raven Road) − PROJECT COMPLETE

(New) Route 609 (Raven Road) is now open to through traffic after crews finished replacing a bridge over Accokeek Creek on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Raven Road was closed near the eastern intersection with Route 608 (Brooke Road).

Spotsylvania County

Spotsylvania Avenue and Mine Road Intersection Improvement Project

Construction is underway at the intersection of Spotsylvania Avenue and Mine Road for an intersection improvement project. Crews will be adding turn lanes, adjusting the existing traffic signal and renovating the sidewalk and median on Spotsylvania Avenue. Motorists should expect brief delays during daytime hours. Extended lane closures will take place during overnight hours. Motorists should expect periodic delays on Mine Road at the intersection. Project completion is November 2016.

Route 1 and Route 620 (Harrison Road)

Construction to build additional turn lanes and extend existing turn lanes is underway at the intersection of Route 1 and Harrison Road in Spotsylvania County. Motorists should be alert for construction crews and equipment. Project completion is May 2018.

Caroline County/King George County

Route 301 at Rappahannock River

Bridge rehabilitation is underway on the James Madison Memorial Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Maintenance will occur below the bridge deck and includes repairing concrete, replacing bearings, shoring up rip-rap on the slope, and replacing navigation lights. All lanes are currently open on the bridge, but single lane closures will be in place periodically. Project completion is October 2017.

Route 721 (Sparta Road) Bridge Rehabilitation

Bridge rehabilitation is underway on Route 721 (Sparta Road) bridge over Maracossic Creek. The bridge is located near Route 640 (Maracossic Drive) and Route 645 (Pendleton Road). Sparta Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge for approximately four weeks, weather permitting. Signs and message boards are posted along the recommended detour route.

Caroline County/King and Queen County

Route 721 (Newtown Road)

Construction is underway to build a new bridge over Beverly Creek at the Caroline County and King and Queen County line. Motorists are restricted to a single lane controlled by a temporary traffic signal in the work zone. The project is expected to be complete in July 2017.
