Stafford County

Route 17

Three through travel lanes are now open on Route 17 northbound and southbound between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway. Construction activities associated with the final phase of the Route 17 widening project will continue this week with minimal impact to traffic.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)

Monday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. One lane will be closed intermittently on Route 610 eastbound and westbound at Onville Road. Motorists may periodically encounter brief delays during the overnight hours in this work zone. Crews are placing sewer lines in connection with the Route 610/Onville Road intersection improvement project.

Route 1001 (Melcher Drive)

(Update) Monday – Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane for paving and line striping. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone.

Routine Maintenance

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will be performing routine maintenance activities in the following locations:

City of Fredericksburg

Interstate 95

(Update) This week motorists can expect delays on Interstate 95 northbound and southbound at mile marker 131 located near Fredericksburg. Each evening beginning Aug. 22 – Aug. 25 crews will lift concrete beams into place at the site of a new Fall Hill Avenue overpass located between I-95 Exit 130/Route 3 at Fredericksburg and Exit 133/Route 17 in Stafford County. Virginia State Police will be assisting with traffic control in the work zone.

The following lane closure schedule is planned:

I-95 northbound (Monday, Aug. 22 and Tuesday, Aug. 23)
• Single lane closure at 9 p.m.
• Double lane closure at 9:30 p.m.
• Between midnight and 3 a.m. all traffic will be stopped several times for approximately 20 minutes at a time.
• All lanes re-open to traffic by 4:30 a.m.

I-95 southbound (Wednesday, Aug. 24 and Thursday, Aug. 25)
• Single lane closure at 9:30 p.m.
• Double lane closure at 10 p.m.
• All lanes re-open to traffic by 5 a.m.

Fall Hill Avenue

Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Fall Hill Avenue between Carl D. Silver Parkway and the Rappahannock Canal for construction activity. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Mary Washington Boulevard

Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on Mary Washington Boulevard between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard for construction activity. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Spotsylvania County

Interstate 95 Bridge Inspections

(New) Crews will be performing routine bridge inspections at the following locations this week:

•Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. – noon. Intermittent single lane closures on I-95 southbound between mile marker 124.9 and mile marker 125.9 located near Exit 126 (Route 1/Spotsylvania).

•Monday and Tuesday, noon – 3:30 p.m. Intermittent single lane closures on I-95 northbound between mile marker 124.9 and mile marker 125.9 located near Exit 126 (Route 1/Spotsylvania).

•Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Right lane and shoulder will be closed on I-95 northbound between mile marker 118.5 and mile marker 119.5 located near Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg).

Interstate 95 Bridge Washing

Wednesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. A mobile bridge washing operation will be underway this week on

I-95 northbound and southbound between mile marker 118 near Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg) and mile marker 126 located near Exit 126 (Route 1/Spotsylvania). Motorists can expect a single lane and shoulder closure in this mobile work zone.

Route 613 (Brock Road)

(New) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be milling and paving on Brock Road from Courthouse Road to Old Robert E. Lee Drive. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone. During the milling phase of the project motorists will encounter a rough driving surface in the work zone.

Route 627 (Gordon Road)

(Update) Sunday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Crews will continue milling and paving on Route 627 (Gordon Road) from Route 613 (Brock Road) to just north of Route 674 (Chancellor Road). Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone. Expect delays and a rough driving surface in this area.

Spotsylvania Avenue at Mine Road

(New) Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment in the vicinity of the Spotsylvania Avenue/Mine Road intersection as crews begin work to improve the existing intersection. Expect brief delays.

Route 620 (Harrison Road)

(Update) Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent flagging and single lane closures on Route 620 (Harrison Road). Motorists may periodically encounter brief delays in the overnight hours in this work zone. In addition, the shortened right turn lane from Route 1 southbound to Harrison Road westbound has been removed. This work is in connection with the Route 1 and Harrison Road intersection improvement project.

Route 628 (Smith Station Road)

Monday − Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Motorists should expect lane closures, delays and traffic pattern changes on Route 628 southbound between the CVS entrance and Courtland High School. Flaggers will be directing traffic in the work zone. This work is in connection with the Route 628 (Smith Station Road) turn lanes and signal modification project.

Route 17

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will continue trench work on Route 17 northbound and southbound from just north of Route 301 to just south of Route 675 (Hazelwood Lane). Motorists should expect alternating lane closures in the work zone.

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will be performing routine maintenance activities in the following locations:

Caroline County/King George County

Route 301 at Rappahannock River

On Friday crews will perform a concrete pour in connection with the substructure repair on the Route 301 bridge over the Rappahannock River. A single lane closure will be in place on Route 301 southbound on the bridge and at the approaches to bridge. The lane closure will be in place from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. This work is in connection with the Route 301 Bridge Rehabilitation Project.

Caroline County/King and Queen County

Route 721 (Newtown Road)

(New) On Monday, August 29 crews will begin construction of a new bridge over Beverly Creek in King and Queen County located near the Caroline County line. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment in this area. The project is expected to be complete in July 2017.

Westmoreland County

Route 214

Monday – Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will pave Route 214 from Route 3 to Route 609. Motorists should expect brief delays in the work zone.

Lancaster County

Route 630

(New) Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be patching and paving at various locations on Route 630. Motorists should expect brief delays in the work zone.

Route 695

(New) Thursday – Friday, 7 a.m. -7 p.m. Crews will be milling and paving on Route 695 near the Town of Irvington. Motorists should expect brief delays and a rough driving surface in the work zone.

King William County

Route 30

(Update) Monday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will continue milling, patching and paving on Route 30 from Route 620 (Black Gum Road) to Route 641 (Sandy Point Road). Motorists should expect brief delays and a rough driving surface in the work zone.

Route 30

(Update) Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will continue milling, patching and paving on Route 30 from Route 631 (Marl Hill Road) to Route 632 (Mt. Olive Cohoke Road). Motorists should expect brief delays and a rough driving surface in the work zone.

Thursday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be milling on Route 30 from Route 635 (Romancoke Road) to Route 702 (Industrial Parkway). Motorists should expect brief delays and a rough driving surface in the work zone.

Mathews County

Route 14

Tuesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will pave Route 14 from Route 611 (Tabernacle Road) to just east of Route 729 (Weston Hall Road). Motorists should expect brief delays in the work zone.

Route 198

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Paving will continue on Route 198 from just east of Route 1015 (Cross Court) to Route 633 (Fitchetts Wharf Road). Motorists should expect brief delays in the work zone.

Gloucester County

Route 614 (Hickory Fork Road)

Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will continue paving and installing pavement markers on Route 614 (Hickory Fork Road) from Route 606 (Ark Road) to Route 610 (Pinetta Road). Motorists should expect delays in the work zone.

Route 616

(New) Beginning Monday crews will mobilize on Route 616 in Gloucester County to begin patching at various locations prior to paving. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures at various locations during the daylight hours.

Highway Improvement Projects

City of Fredericksburg

Fall Hill Avenue Widening and I-95 Overpass Replacement Project

Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and I-95 overpass replacement project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the Rappahannock Canal bridge and Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park), as well as on Mary Washington Boulevard. Project completion is January 2017.

Stafford County

95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus Extension

Construction is underway to extend 95 Express Lanes in Stafford County. The approximate 2.5 mile extension will carry traffic beyond the flyover ramp where 95 Express Lanes currently end, just north of Exit 143/Route 610 (Garrisonville Road). The new southbound exit ramp is scheduled to open by early 2018, and the northbound entrance ramp will open in summer 2018.

Route 610/Onville Road Intersection Improvement Project

Construction is underway at the intersection of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 641 (Onville Road) to build additional turn lanes. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction on Onville Road. Project completion is May 2017.

Route 17

Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Travel lanes will remain open, but motorists may encounter slight traffic shifts in the work zone. Project completion is December 2016.

Route 1

Be alert for a temporary traffic pattern on Route 1 southbound at the site of the new Aquia Hilton. Through lanes on Route 1 southbound from just south of Port Aquia Drive to just prior to Coachman Drive (at the 7-Eleven) are shifted to the left. The continuous center lane for left turns in this area is closed to accommodate the traffic shift. This work is related to construction of the Aquia Hilton.

Route 1 and Garrisonville Road Turn Lane Project

Stafford County is locally administering a project to add a second right turn lane from Route 1 southbound to westbound Route 610 (Garrisonville Road). New traffic signal equipment will also be installed at the intersection. Drivers may encounter lane closures during off-peak and overnight hours. Project completion is September 2016.

Spotsylvania County

Spotsylvania Avenue and Mine Road Intersection Improvement Project

Construction is underway at the intersection of Spotsylvania Avenue and Mine Road for an intersection improvement project. Crews will be adding turn lanes, adjusting the existing traffic signal and renovating the sidewalk and median on Spotsylvania Avenue. Motorists should expect brief delays during daytime hours. Extended lane closures will take place during overnight hours. Motorists should expect periodic delays on Mine Road at the intersection. Project completion is mid-November 2016.

Route 1 and Route 620 (Harrison Road)

Construction to build additional turn lanes and extend existing turn lanes is underway at the intersection of Route 1 and Harrison Road in Spotsylvania County. Motorists should be alert for construction crews and equipment. Project completion is May 2018.

Route 628 (Smith Station Road)

Construction is underway on the Route 628 (Smith Station Road) turn lanes and signal modification project. The project is located on Smith Station Road near the Route 208 (Courthouse Road) intersection. Motorists should expect periodic lane closures and delays in the work zone. Project completion is October 2016.

Caroline County

Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road)

Nelson Hill Road is closed to traffic at the bridge over the Mattaponi River for a bridge rehabilitation project. Motorists should follow the posted detour route. Project completion is mid-September 2016.

Caroline County/King George County

Route 301 at Rappahannock River

Bridge rehabilitation is underway on the James Madison Memorial Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Maintenance will occur below the bridge deck and includes repairing concrete, replacing bearings, shoring up rip-rap on the slope, and replacing navigation lights. All lanes are currently open on the bridge, but single lane closures will be installed in the future. Project completion is October 2017.

Westmoreland County

Route 617 (Gardy’s Mill Road)

Route 617 is closed to through traffic for a bridge replacement project. The bridge is located 1.5 miles from Route 202 near the Northumberland County line. Traffic is detoured approximately 4.5 miles around the work site. Project completion is late August 2016.
