Man Charged In Hit And Run Death In Spotsy

(Spotsylvania)- From the Sheriff’s Office:

At approximately 10:20pm, Tuesday night, Spotsylvania County Deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident, with injuries, in the 10600 block of Courthouse Road. Upon arrival, Deputies and emergency medical personnel discovered a head on collision between two vehicles had occurred in the West bound lane of travel. One person was critically injured and had to be extricated from his vehicle. Emergency medical personnel began life saving measures and transported the victim to Mary Washington Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Traffic Reconstruction Team was called to the location, which is in the Breezewood area of the County. Investigation revealed that a brown Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Courthouse Rd. in the westbound lanes, driven by 24 year old Felix Menkiti Edozie, II. A black Honda Accord was traveling westbound on Courthouse Rd. in the westbound lanes, driven by 26 year old James Demetris Dykes, of Spotsylvania County. Both vehicles collided head on, causing severe damage to both vehicles. Dykes, fled the scene of foot and were later apprehended by Deputies and returned to the accident location. Mr. Edozie was removed from the crash scene and transported to Mary Washington Hospital, as rescue personnel attempted to resuscitate him. Mr. Edozie was later pronounced deceased at the hospital as a result of his injuries. Dykes was arrested and taken before the magistrate, charging him with Felony Hit and Run. He was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail on no bond. Investigation is still ongoing.
