(Fredericksburg)- The James Monroe High School Track and Field team raised nearly 43-hundred dollars yesterday in their first annual Lap-a-Thon. (the amount could still go up as more pledge sheets are turned in. A Go-Fund-Me page will remain active until mid-week.) The money will go to the Fairy Godmother Project in memory of Ceili Leahy who bravely fought two types of cancer.
The Fredericksburg and JM community came out yesterday to walk with Ceili’s parents. Students, parents, football coach Rich Serbay and Assistant Superintendent Marci Catlett were there. There were 51 participants. 1,023 laps. Terence McKenzie and Mitch Dolby did 80 laps.
Track and Field head coach Darryl Dyson said the event was the idea of his team as a way to honor Ceili.
