Trees Debated Along Washington Ave. Mall

(Fredericksburg)- About 150 people attended a meeting on trees on the Washington Avenue Mall in Fredericksburg last night. A majority of those who spoke support the current plan.

One group favors trees framing the mall. The other group says there are too many. Carolyn Helfrich is on the Clean and Green Commission and has studied trees. She says what you see has been carefully chosen. Washington Ave. resident Steve Gaske opposes the number and types of trees planted.
The City will take comment on the issue thru Feb 15. The Clean and Green Commission will give a recommendation to City Council.
