cats3(Fredericksburg)- A kitten rescue in the City overnight. Fredericksburg Police tell us that about 1am this morning officers responded to a call near the Belmont apartments. A woman called dispatch after hearing a kitten crying from inside a storm drain.

Officers Josh Gilworth and Nick Wagner saw the kitten in the storm drain. After the Fire Department removed the manhole cover, Officer Gilworth climbed into the drain to rescue the kitten.

However, the frightened kitten ran down a narrow 150 foot horizontal pipe that runs to the other side of the road. So the Fire Department removed a manhole cover on the other side of the street. Officer Gilworth descended again, this time with cat food and milk. No luck. The kitten was still too scared and wouldn’t come to Officer Gilworth.

Fire fighters slowly ran water through the pipe in an attempt to get the kitten to move and Officer Gilworth turned his flashlight off. Within minutes, he had the kitten! A nearby resident took the kitten home. City Police spokeswoman Sarah Kirkpatrick called the results puurfect! Thank you to Officer Gilworth, Wagner, and the Fire Department for a job well done!
