(Doswell)- The nation’s oldest stand-up roller coaster will soon be a thing of the past. Kings Dominion has announced it will soon remove the Shockwave roller coaster, saying the ride will operate for the final time on August 9th. The Shockwave first opened in 1986. Kings Dominion says it’s being removed in order to accommodate the continued growth of the Candy Apple Grove section of the theme park. Kings Dominion says the Shockwave has carried more than 22-million people over the years.
