Cause Still Unknown from Spotsylvania Brush Fire

SPOTSYLVANIA – No word on the cause of this fire but be extra careful these days with high winds and low humidity. At approximately 5:30 pm Sunday night, multiple citizens called the Spotsylvania County Emergency Communication Center to report brush and trees on fire at Falcon Drive and Mine Road. Other passers-by reported the endangerment of multiple houses and business. Emergency responders arrived on scene and reported a large fire with pine trees involved.

Responders battled the fire for about two hours before getting it under control. No homes were reported to have sustained damage from the fire as it spread.

In total, 50 career and volunteer personnel from the Spotsylvania County Department of Fire and Rescue Emergency Management (FREM) responded, including: four chief officers, six engines, four brush trucks, one tower truck, the Department of Forestry bulldozer, two medic units and one Fire Marshall. One firefighter was transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation, but was released that day.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the exact cause of the fire.
