FREDERICKSBURG – The City of Fredericksburg issued a warning March 23 for people and their pets to avoid sections of Smith Run, Hazel Run and the Rappahannock River due to raw wastewater contamination of the waterways.

Broken sewer main was discover Sunday night, with waterwater flowing into Smith Run, which flows into the Rappahannock River.  Crews isolate the main and redirected the flow around the broken section.  It’s expects that crews will have the clean-up completed by March 25th.

Residents are asked not to enter Smith Run and Hazel Run from the point where Smith Run enters, to the Rappahannock River and down river for approximately one mile from the Blue and Gray Parkway (Route 3) Bridge.
