FREDERICKSBURG – On Friday, March 20 at 2:20 a.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Wicklow Drive in the Fall Hill Apartments for a report of a male subject lying unresponsive in a stairwell. Officer Abe Lasco and Officer Shaun Jurgens discovered the unconscious man bleeding and suffering from an apparent stab wound to the chest. Emergency life-saving measures were taken on the scene and the victim was transported by ambulance to Mary Washington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The victim has been identified as Joshua Wormley, 22, whose last known address was in Bowling Green. The killing of Mr. Wormley is the first homicide in Fredericksburg since the shooting of Rodney Beanum on November 24, 2013.
A tip from a citizen led officers and detectives to a residence in the apartment complex. Inside that residence, Officer Jurgens found a male subject hiding in a closet and detained him for questioning. Following further investigation, Chance
Robby Sumter, 22, of Fredericksburg was arrested on a charge of first degree homicide. Sumter is now incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond. Sumter was reportedly an acquaintance of the stabbing victim.
