VRE considers express train

The Virginia Railway Express is considering adding an express train at 5:05 each morning. At a public hearing on the proposed change in Fredericksburg last night, Dale Zehner the C-E-O of VRE said the express train would stop at L'Enfant Plaza instead of Union Station. The earlier train would have fewer stops. Zehner estimates it would be about 20 minutes faster. Zehner says most of the comments so far have opposed ending at L'Enfant. He says people who work near Union Station would be forced to change their commute. The train that ended at L'Enfant would start there on the return commute at night. A decision will be made on whether to make a switch by the VRE Operations Board next month. Zehner says, "If we do not do L'Enfant, there is no change in the current service for the foreseeable future." He says the express train would likely mean more room on other Fredericksburg Line trains. He says, “The following trains would be opened up."
